About D.S. Owen
David Samuel Owen (12 March 1887 – 26 March 1959) was a minister of Calvinistic Methodists / Presbyterian Church of Wales.He was the minister of Jewin Welsh Presbyterian Church in London from 1915 to 1959, until his death.
After the Church was destroyed by an air raid in 1940, he especially made to effort to rebuild it.
He was also a Council member of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion.
And he was a winner and an adjudicator of the National Eisteddfod (recitation), a captain and a famous player of the University College of North Wales football team, and an actor and a producer at school and amateur dramatic societies.

デイヴィッド・サミュエル・オーウェン （1887年3月12日生、1959年3月26日没）は、カルヴァン派メソジスト / ウェールズ長老教会の牧師でした。
在ロンドンウェールズ長老教会Jewin Chapelの牧師を1915年から1959年に亡くなるまで務め、1940年に教会が空襲の被害により焼失した後は特にその再建に尽力しました。
彼はカムロドリオン協会の理事でもあったほか、ナショナル・アイステズヴォッドの朗唱部門で優勝、のち審査員、大学時代にはサッカーの有名選手でチームのキャプテンを務め、高校やアマチュア劇団で演技や演出もしていました。
About Me and My Research
This blog is run by me, Bitayamoka.The ultimate objective of my research is to write up his life in some way, intertwining it with things that he was directly or indirectly involved in Wales and the Welsh community in London of the age in which he lived.
I am Japanese was born and live in Japan and have lived without much Welsh or Christian involvement.
The cause of me getting into research into the Rev. D.S. Owen was an interview article about an actor who is one of his great-grandchildren which I read in April 2019.
In the article, the actor said like following;
My great grandfather, D S Owen, was quite a famous preacher at the London Welsh Chapel...
All the dairy farmers would come up to his services, and a lot of my family still go to the Welsh church in the city. Macfadyen, M. (2001). Interviewed by Rob Driscoll for Western Mail, 7 May, p. 11.
I became a big fan of the actor since I saw he was playing a medieval monk from Wales.
So, I was curious and started researching, and I found out how an intriguing person -for me, at least, "D S Owen" is.
Furthermore, I became interested in learning about the history and the culture of Wales and Welsh in London, Christianity and things and people related to him. Thus I also have started to research them.
In addition, I had a very lucky meeting for me as noted in the 'Special Thanks'.
Because of that, I became I have an ambition as described above, and I decided to start this blog as a note of my research.

彼が生きた時代のウェールズやロンドンのウェールズ人社会で彼が直接的、間接的に関わった事柄と絡めて、彼の人生を何らかの形でまとめることを目標にしています。

私がD.S.オーウェン牧師とその周辺の調査にのめり込むようになったのは、2019年4月に彼の曾孫にあたる、ある俳優のインタビュー記事を読んだことがきっかけでした。
そのインタビューの中で、その俳優は以下のように言っていました。
私の曾祖父、D S オーウェンはロンドンのウェールズ教会の非常に有名な説教者でした。（中略）

私はこの俳優がウェールズ出身の中世カトリックの修道院長を演じているのを見たのがきっかけで彼の大ファンになりました。
そこで、気になって調べ始めたところ、この「D S オーウェン」が少なくとも自分にとってはとても興味深い人物であることがわかってきました。
そして、ロンドンのウェールズやウェールズの歴史や文化、キリスト教、彼にまつわる物や人について知りたいと思うようになり、それらについても調べ始めました。
さらに 'Special Thanks'に記載したように自分にとって幸運な出会いもあり、上記の目標を持つようになり、そのための調査メモとしてこのブログを立ち上げることにしました。

About Languages Used in This Blog
This blog is written in Japanese and partly, as possible as I can, in English.Japanese follows English when using both languages.
However, I have bad English, so please let me know if the English on this blog is incorrect.
Also, due to the nature of the things that this blog deals with, some are written in Welsh.
For example, 'Y Parch.', included in the title of this blog, is Welsh language which means Reverend in English. It is a written abbreviation for 'Parchedig' like 'The Rev.' in English.

Special Thanks
I wish to express my sincere thanks to Miss Bethan Pritchard, who is a granddaughter of the Rev. D.S. Owen.She continued her brother's work and completed a booklet about their grandfather.
In addition, she has been telling me a lot of interesting stories about her -the Rev. D.S. Owen's- family with her kindness.
I am also grateful to the Rev. Richard Brunt, the current minister of Jewin Welsh Chapel and all the other Welsh Presbyterian churches in London.
He kindly invited and showed me Jewin and gave me two valuable booklets. One is about the history of Jewin, and the other is about the Rev. D.S. Owen by late Jewin's elder Mr Geraint Pritchard who was Bethan's brother.
And he has always been telling me all sorts of things about Jewin and the Welsh Presbyterian churches in London and helping me with my research.
He also introduced me to Bethan.

そして、彼はいつも親切にJewinやロンドンのウェールズ長老教会のことについて様々なことを教えてくださり、私の調査に協力してくださっています。
